Help Us Unlock Housing Options

Parents and Son (1)_edited.png
KeysWI is an initiative dedicated to unlocking more housing options for people with autism, intellectual and developmental disabilities (A/I/DD) in Northeast Wisconsin.

We aim to provide leaders, families and partners with the data and strategic insight necessary to foster independence and belonging for all.

My Housing Voice, our first project, will gather and amplify input from people with A/I/DD, their families and their support networks to ensure that housing policies reflect real lives.

Support from the Basic Needs Giving Partnership, many community collaborators and committed volunteers is driving this project.

From a my housing voice participant

I found it really important to see what our future could look like, and I have a lot of hope going forward.

I encourage you to take the time to do the survey...it is so important for our kids.

Did you know?

75% of adults with A/I/DD live with family

This is not entirely by choice. Rather, it is because the housing market hasn't been designed with them in mind.

25% live with a family caregiver over age 60

What happens when they can no longer live at home?

What Participants are Saying

Parents & Guardians, Winnebago County

Very grateful someone took the time to write a grant for My Housing Voice. It feels wonderful that us caregivers, parents and advocates are asked for our input! It shows you care about people who actually live this.

Self-Advocate

It was quite interesting to know. And I know [more] than I did before.

Living with and raising a family member with disabilities is like moving mountains every day to advocate for them. Inclusion is required.

Mother & Guardian, Outagamie County

My biggest worry is what will happen to my child when/if I am no longer here. Without many options, it’s an ongoing concern. Please help us change this.

Mom, City of Oshkosh

I was shocked to learn about all the different physical amenities that could be available to my daughter in the future. She thrives on knowing what is planned for the day. I’ve never heard of “cognitive accessibility features.” I am excited to learn more and share our thoughts and opinions on the survey.

Mom, City of Appleton

My child is in high school and thinks he may want a place of his own someday. I would love for him to be able to do this, but right now I don’t think this is possible in Wisconsin. Our autistic community members deserve to be able to live as everyone else does. I hope things change before we have to face this.

Mom, City of Appleton

To know that there are real options for my children to live independently when we can no longer care for them is exciting! I sure hope communities and “the powers that be” see the need for housing for people with Autism/IDD.
